Arsenal Set to Sign David Raya as Matt Turner Joins Nottingham Forest
Arsenal is reportedly on the verge of completing the signing of goalkeeper David Raya from Brentford. The deal could be finalized within the next 48 hours, with Matt Turner set to join Nottingham Forest, according to reports.
Raya’s potential move to Arsenal came as a surprise last week, but personal terms between the player and the club were quickly agreed upon. The Gunners submitted their opening offer to Brentford, worth around £23 million, which is significantly less than the Bees’ £40 million valuation.
However, progress has been made on the deal, and renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has claimed that the transfer could be completed within the next 24 to 48 hours. Arsenal is hoping to meet Brentford in the middle and agree on a £30 million fee. The urgency to get the deal done quickly is due to Turner’s move to Nottingham Forest already being agreed upon.
According to the Daily Mail, Nottingham Forest will pay £7 million for USA international Matt Turner, who has already agreed to personal terms. The two clubs just need to finalize the details of the transfer. Turner joined Arsenal last summer as Aaron Ramsdale’s backup, but he will now become the first-choice goalkeeper at the City Ground after the end of Dean Henderson and Keylor Navas’ loans.
Raya’s departure from Brentford this summer was expected, as he had refused a contract extension at the club. However, a move to Arsenal was not predicted. The goalkeeper had been heavily linked with Chelsea, Manchester United, and Tottenham, but they have since signed other goalkeepers.
At Arsenal, Raya will face stiff competition from Ramsdale, who will be looking to prove his worth to manager Mikel Arteta in Sunday’s Community Shield clash against Manchester City.
