Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka in potential World Cup blow for Switzerland after going off early against Wolves at Molineux with suspected sickness

Granit Xhaka lasted just 16 minutes in Arsenal’s away clash at Wolves after being substituted to spark fears he could miss the World Cup.

The Switzerland skipper hit the deck within the first two minutes at Molineux with the midfielder appearing to be suffering from illness.

Xhaka appeared to hold his stomach as he fell to the floor, where he decided to play on after receiving treatment.

But he failed to shake off his problem where he was replaced by Fabio Vieira.

Xhaka waved over to the Arsenal bench to signal he couldn’t continue, and Mikel Arteta wasted no time in making a swift change.

The 30-year-old has been one of the Gunners’ key players this term with the player chipping in with four goals and three assists.

talkSPORT commentator Clive Tyldesley is of the opinion that Xhaka’s early exit was not due to injury, but instead as a result of sickness.

He said: “He doesn’t look quite right.

    “He looks unwell to me.”

Xhaka will be hoping to recover quickly from the suspected bug with the World Cup just a week away.

Switzerland face Cameroon on November 24, where Xhaka will be hoping to lead his country out for their opening game.

Arsenal went into their clash in the Midlands knowing they would sit top of the table heading into Christmas regardless of the result.
