Arsenal Set to Make Bid for Wolves’ Daniel Bentley
In the latest transfer news, Arsenal is reportedly making a new bid for Wolves’ goalkeeper, Daniel Bentley. The Gunners have been pursuing the 31-year-old for several weeks now, and it seems they are close to reaching a compromise with Wolves. While the initial asking price was £1 million, Arsenal is hoping to secure the deal for around £300,000.
Bentley, who has played for Brentford and Bristol City in the past, has found himself behind Jose Sa in the pecking order at Wolves. Last season, he made just five Premier League appearances. With Arsenal in need of a new reserve goalkeeper, Bentley could provide valuable cover for the team.
Although Bentley may end up being the third-choice goalkeeper behind Aaron Ramsdale and backup option Karl Hein, he may still consider the move to Arsenal. Ramsdale’s price tag of £50 million makes it unlikely for him to find another club this transfer window. This could give Bentley an opportunity to compete for playing time and showcase his skills.
Interestingly, Bentley began his career at Arsenal’s academy but left the club at the age of 15 to join Southend in 2009. Since then, he has played for various clubs before signing for Wolves in January 2023. During his time at Wolves, Bentley has made just nine appearances in 18 months, providing cover for Sa. However, he has managed to keep three clean sheets in those matches, including a 67-minute appearance against Arsenal in December last year.
Notably, Arsenal recently released goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo, who joined Wrexham on a free transfer after a successful loan spell. To strengthen their goalkeeping options, the Gunners have also signed 18-year-old Ajax keeper Tommy Setford for just under £1 million.
As Arsenal gears up for the new season, securing a reliable backup goalkeeper is crucial. With Bentley’s experience and potential, he could be a valuable addition to the squad. However, negotiations between Arsenal and Wolves are still ongoing, and fans will have to wait to see if the deal comes to fruition.
