Arsenal ‘in trouble’ if one of front four get injured, says Paul Merson

Paul Merson believes Arsenal will be ‘in trouble’ if any of their first-choice front four get injured this season.

The Gunners signed Gabriel Jesus from Manchester City this summer to reinforce Mikel Arteta’s options up front after losing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette.

The Brazil international has settled in quickly at the north London club, impressing in pre-season and putting in a vibrant performance in the win over Crystal Palace in the opening game of the Premier League campaign.

Jesus linked up with fellow attackers Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka well, while new captain Martin Odegaard was the creative force behind them.

The Gunners have been linked with a number of forwards this summer, including Raphinha, who went to Barcelona, and most recently Villarreal’s Yeremy Pino.

For now, apart from the four that started at Palace, Arteta can pick from new signings Fabio Vieira or Marquinhos from the bench,

Emile Smith Rowe, Eddie Nketiah, and Nicolas Pepe could also be options, while Reiss Nelson is reportedly out through injury.

For Gunners legend Merson though, Jesus, Martinelli, Saka and Odegaard are absolutely key this season and would be sorely missed if one of them suffers an injury.

‘The front four look lively for Arsenal,’ Merson told Sportskeeda.

‘They’ve got everything between them and if they stay fit, Arsenal are going to have a good Premier League season.

‘If one of them gets injured, however, they’re in trouble.’

Next up after their 2-0 victory away at Palace, Arsenal face Leicester City at the Emirates Stadium

Merson is expecting an easy win for his former club against Brendan Rodgers’ Foxes.

‘I’m worried for Leicester this season. There’s too much going on at the club,’ ,’ Merson added.

‘[James] Maddison and [Wesley] Fofana have their heads turned at the moment, and Kasper Schmeichel’s departure is a massive loss for the team.

They blew a 2-0 lead against Brentford and might lose quite a few players in the transfer market this month. I don’t see how they can keep a clean sheet this weekend.

‘I thought Arsenal were outstanding in their first 20 minutes against Crystal Palace.

‘I was very impressed by them at times last week, and I think they should be able to win this game easily.’
