Arsenal eyeing Wilfried Zaha signing amid European competition

Date:

Wilfried Zaha, the Crystal Palace winger, is expected to leave Selhurst Park at the end of the season when his current contract expires. While Palace are keen for him to sign a new deal, it appears that Zaha is preparing to leave amid interest from a number of clubs. Recent reports suggest that Zaha is considering a shock move to Saudi Arabia, where he could join up with Cristiano Ronaldo at Al-Nassr. However, several European clubs are also interested in securing his services, including Premier League leaders Arsenal, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, and Monaco.

Zaha was heavily linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium when Unai Emery was in charge of the Gunners, but Palace were unhappy with Arsenal’s approaches. Zaha has made more than 450 appearances for Crystal Palace and enjoyed his best ever season last year, scoring 15 goals. While his numbers have dropped off slightly this term, that is perhaps to be expected given Crystal Palace’s struggles in the Premier League.

The Eagles slipped perilously close to the relegation zone before Patrick Vieira’s sacking last month but have won their last two games under new manager Roy Hodgson to climb 12 points above the drop zone. Speaking after Palace’s remarkable 5-1 win over Leeds United on Sunday, Hodgson said: “This was a good day. They won’t be good days forever. If I was a younger, less cynical person I might be enjoying it more than I am because I have an eye that we aren’t clear of the relegation zone. I have to make certain the good things we did today we reproduce.”

Zaha’s only spell away from Selhurst Park came a decade ago when he flopped at Manchester United only to be sold back to his boyhood club 18 months later. Big clubs may have viewed Zaha as a busted flush at that point, but the 30-year-old quickly revived his career in south London.

Arsenal will consider reviving their interest in Wilfried Zaha this summer, but they face competition from three European clubs to sign the Crystal Palace winger. Ivory Coast international Zaha is expected to leave Selhurst Park when his current contract expires at the end of the season. Palace are keen for Zaha to put pen to paper on a new deal, but it appears as though the 30-year-old is preparing to leave amid interest from a number of clubs.

According to Foot Mercato, Premier League leaders Arsenal are one of four European teams considering summer moves for Zaha. While Zaha was heavily linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium when Unai Emery was in charge of the Gunners, Palace were unhappy with Arsenal’s approaches. It is claimed Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, and Monaco have also expressed interest in signing Zaha.
