Arsenal Reportedly Interested in Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi for January Transfer
Arsenal reportedly has a ‘strong interest’ in signing Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi in the upcoming January transfer window. However, deals for six other transfer targets are unlikely.
Arsenal’s Previous Attempt to Sign Zubimendi
The Gunners attempted to sign Zubimendi last January, but the midfielder turned them down. However, he expressed openness to moving to the Emirates in the summer.
Current Interest and Challenges
Despite not securing a deal in the previous transfer window, Arsenal remains keen on signing the 24-year-old midfielder. According to The Athletic, several factors would need to align for Arsenal to sign Zubimendi in January, including convincing him to leave mid-season while Real Sociedad is still competing in the Champions League. Zubimendi’s contract reportedly includes a £52.8m release clause.
Other Transfer Targets
Arsenal also has admiration for three strikers: Victor Osimhen from Napoli, Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig, and Evan Ferguson from Brighton. However, it is unlikely that any deals for these players will be completed in January. Additionally, Ivan Toney has been linked to Arsenal, but it is expected that he will remain at Brentford until at least the summer due to the club’s high transfer fee demands and reluctance to sell after Bryan Mbeumo’s injury.
Profitability and Sustainability Rules
Arsenal’s activity in the January transfer window may be limited due to profitability and sustainability rules (PSR). The club’s immediate priority is to secure the permanent signing of David Raya, the Brentford goalkeeper who is currently on loan at the Emirates, for £27m.
Trending
It should be noted that Arsenal is not interested in signing Dominic Solanke from AFC Bournemouth or Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz. The club faces challenges regarding PSR, which may impact their transfer activity.
