Arsenal and Chelsea Battle for Scottish Teen Sensation
Premier League giants Arsenal and Chelsea are both vying for the signature of highly touted Aberdeen teenager Lewis Carrol. At just 15 years old, the defender has yet to make his senior debut for Aberdeen but has impressed scouts with his performances at the youth level.
According to reports from The Athletic, Chelsea has been monitoring Carrol for some time, while Arsenal’s interest has emerged more recently. The young center-back, who will turn 16 in March, has been compared favorably to Manchester City and England defender John Stones for his composure on the ball at the back.
Carrol has not signed a professional contract with Aberdeen yet, leaving the door open for a potential move before he does. However, if he does make a switch, Aberdeen would receive a compensation fee. Following in the footsteps of Calvin Ramsay, who moved from Aberdeen to Liverpool in 2022, Carrol could be the next Scottish talent to make the leap to the Premier League.
Ramsay, who is currently on loan at Bolton after spells at Preston, is still only 20 years old and will be hoping to establish himself at Anfield despite dealing with injury setbacks. Meanwhile, Aberdeen’s senior team, now under the leadership of Neil Warnock, is currently sitting eighth in the Scottish Premiership table after a string of winless league games.
After a recent 2-2 draw with Hibs, Warnock expressed frustration with his team’s defensive performance, likening it to Sunday League defending. Despite creating numerous goal-scoring opportunities, Aberdeen conceded two goals due to defensive errors, leaving Warnock disappointed with the outcome.
As the race for young talents heats up in the Premier League, Arsenal and Chelsea are keeping a close eye on Lewis Carrol as they look to secure his services in the upcoming summer transfer window. With his potential likened to that of established defenders like John Stones, Carrol could be the next Scottish sensation to make waves in English football.
