Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta was full of praise for his players after they fought back from two goals down to draw 3-3 with Southampton at the Emirates Stadium. The Gunners had gone behind after just five minutes when Stuart Armstrong opened the scoring for the Saints. Danny Ings then doubled their lead shortly before half-time, but Arsenal responded in the second half with goals from Alexandre Lacazette, Eddie Nketiah and Joe Willock to secure a point.
Speaking after the match, Arteta said: “I’m really proud of the spirit that the players showed. We were two goals down and could have easily given up, but they kept fighting and got us a deserved point. It’s a great result for us and shows the character of this team.”
The draw means Arsenal remain in ninth place in the Premier League table, but Arteta is confident his side can finish the season strongly. “We have a lot of work to do, but I’m sure we can keep improving and get some positive results in our remaining games,” he said.
