Otte, who is 33 years old, recently served as the goalkeeper coach for the US national team at the Copa America tournament. Unfortunately, his team was knocked out in the group stages by Darwin Nunez’s Uruguay. Despite this setback, Slot was pleased to have Otte back earlier than expected. In an interview with LFCTV, Slot said, “I gave him a few weeks off but he said, ‘No, I want to come as soon as I can.’ He’s already in now after a one-week holiday.”
Slot emphasized the importance of having staff members and players who are eager to join the team and contribute early on. He believes that this dedication and enthusiasm will help them have a successful season. Otte’s arrival has already made a positive impression on goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher. Kelleher mentioned that Otte looks really good and brings new ideas to the goalkeepers. He also noted that Otte is full of energy, which is a positive attribute for a coach.
During Otte’s absence, Mark Morris, the under-21s goalkeeper coach, worked with the first team. However, with Otte’s return, Morris will now resume his role with the under-21s. This means that the coaching staff is finally taking shape as they prepare for the upcoming season. Slot also spoke positively about the addition of Aaron Briggs, who will serve as the first-team individual development coach. Briggs will act as a bridge between the academy and the first team, conducting one-on-one meetings with players and assisting with training sessions. He brings an analyst background to the role and will be utilized in various departments of the team.
