Arjen Robben Offers Advice to Netherlands Women’s Team Ahead of World Cup
Dutch football legend Arjen Robben recently visited the Netherlands women’s team at their training camp in Zeist to offer some valuable advice ahead of the World Cup. The team is preparing for the 2023 tournament and will be travelling to Australia and New Zealand for kick-off on July 20.
Robben, who played for Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Chelsea, conducted a question and answer session with the team. He discussed his experience with the men’s team in the 2010 World Cup final, where they lost to Spain, and his heartbreak in the Champions League finals with Bayern against Inter Milan and Chelsea. However, he also talked about his ultimate redemption when he scored the winner against Borussia Dortmund in 2013.
The former winger asked the women’s team how they respond to pressure and how they deal with it. He emphasized the importance of highlighting pressure positively and having a winning mentality. Robben explained that when he went into the Champions League final, he only had one thing on his mind: winning. He advised the women’s team to have the same mindset.
Robben also discussed the importance of having the right mindset heading into the tournament. He advised the team not to think negatively about the World Cup final and to focus on what they are capable of. He encouraged them to think positively and to believe that they can become world champions or reach the final or semi-final.
The former footballer emphasized that doing exactly the right thing when it counts defines the best and strongest players. He advised the team to focus on what makes them strong and to go out onto the field with confidence. Robben said that if players go onto the field with fear, they might as well stay inside.
The Netherlands women’s team lost the final in Paris to the USA in the last edition of the World Cup. They will be looking to go one further and win their first World Cup this year. With Robben’s advice, the team will be better equipped to handle the pressure and have a winning mentality heading into the tournament.
