Argentina Boss Lionel Scaloni Explains Alejandro Garnacho’s Non-Selection for International Matches
Argentina boss Lionel Scaloni has revealed that Alejandro Garnacho’s lack of form for Manchester United is the main reason behind his exclusion from the latest round of international matches. Garnacho had been called up in the previous two international breaks but only made one appearance off the bench. He has also struggled to make an impact with United, failing to score or assist in his Premier League and Champions League appearances this season. Despite his current struggles, Garnacho is still considered a player with a bright future for both club and country.
Garnacho’s Form Issues
The 19-year-old forward has been struggling for form and confidence recently, which has affected his performances for both Manchester United and Argentina. In his 10 Premier League outings and four Champions League appearances this season, Garnacho has failed to contribute a goal or an assist. His only goal contribution came in September’s Carabao Cup victory over Crystal Palace. However, he did have an assist against Fulham earlier this month, but it was disallowed due to a tight offside call on Harry Maguire.
Scaloni’s Decision
Despite Garnacho’s potential, Scaloni felt it was appropriate to give him a break from international duty, especially since he was unlikely to feature in the upcoming matches. Speaking ahead of the fixtures against Uruguay and Brazil, Scaloni explained that Garnacho’s non-selection was due to his form issues and lack of playing time in previous call-ups.
Messi’s Condition
On a positive note, Scaloni confirmed that Lionel Messi is in good shape despite not playing much for Inter Miami. The Argentina captain has arrived for international duty in good physical condition after training regularly. Messi’s presence will undoubtedly boost Argentina’s chances in the upcoming matches against Uruguay and Brazil.
Training with United
During the international break, Garnacho will train with Manchester United’s other players who were not selected for their respective national teams. This period will provide him with an opportunity to regain his form and confidence ahead of the club’s upcoming matches.
United’s next match is against Everton at Goodison Park, followed by challenging fixtures against Galatasaray, St James’ Park, Chelsea, and Bayern Munich.
