Argentina 1-2 Saudi Arabia RESULT: Lionel Messi and co stunned in huge World Cup shock – live reaction

Lionel Messi and Argentina have suffered a humiliating defeat to Saudi Arabia in their opening game of the 2022 World Cup.

Messi put the pre-tournament favourites ahead from the penalty spot – scoring at a World Cup for the fourth time – and Argentina had three goals disallowed in a dominant first half.

But La Albiceleste were left stunned as goals from Saleh Al Shehri and Salem Al Dawsari in the second half earned Saudi Arabia a stunning victory to blow Group C wide open.

Saudi Arabia are not even ranked inside the top 50 by FIFA and had won only three World Cup games prior to today, while Argentina were on a 36-match unbeaten run heading into this tournament.
