Tottenham manager Antonio Conte reckons opposite number Mikel Arteta should stop moaning.

The race for fourth spot in the Premier League was blown wide open as Spurs won 3-0 at White Hart Lane thanks to an early penalty and a Rob Holding red card, which left Arteta raging.

The Gunners boss’ post-match comments had a similar feel to Jose Mourinho as he revealed: “If I say what I think I’m suspended for six months.

“I am allowed to give my interpretation of what happened. I don’t know how to lie and I don’t like lying so I prefer not to say what I think.”

Pressed further on if he’s unhappy with any of the decisions made by referee Paul Tierney, he responded: “I cannot say what I think. I will be suspended.”

It was a bad night for the visitors, who trailed 2-0 at half-time, with Heung-min Son, who was at the centre of the penalty decision and red card for Rob Holding, scoring a third after the break.

“We should ask the referee to come in front of the camera and explain his decisions… it’s a shame because such a beautiful game was destroyed today,” Arteta added, stating he had nothing but pride for his players.

Conte, though, had little time for the apparent whinging and did not hold back.

“He complains a lot,” he said of Arteta.

“He has to focus more on his team. He has to focus more on his work. He has to continue to work because he’s a very good [coach]. To hear someone complain all the time is not so good.

“At Liverpool [last Saturday] do you hear me complain about Fabinho and all the fouls? No. He can take my advice if he wants, but if not I don’t care.

“I listen and he complains a lot. I think that he has to be more focussed on his team and not to complain because he has just started his work. He has to be calm and try to continue to work. To listen to a coach complain a lot of the time is not good.”

Both teams now have two games remaining following this reshduled fixture, which was initially postponed when Arsenal successfully appealed to the Premier League in January.

Conte was unhappy the decision.

“[Arteta] complained about the fixtures and that was after Arsenal had an unbelievable postponement with just one Covid case,” he added.

“Now we’re playing at 12pm on Sunday and they don’t play until Monday. We can’t always complain.”

Things went from bad to worse for Arsenal late in the second half as centre-back Gabriel went off with what looked like a hamstring injury in the second half.

This means they are without the suspended Holding for their final two matches of the season – away at Newcastle and home against Everton – and may miss Gabriel and Ben White, too.

Asked why White wasn’t brought on, Arteta said: “To take the risk in the situation didn’t make any sense. We now focus on Newcastle [on Monday], this game is history.”

And on Gabriel’s injury, he added: “He felt something so hopefully Ben will be fit and hopefully Gabi will recover because if not obviously we don’t have enough players in the back line.”
