Antonio Conte meltdown at Burnley transformed Tottenham and they ‘won’t be Spursy anymore’ thanks to ‘furious, football-addicted’ manager

Tony Cascarino insists Tottenham will not be ‘Spursy’ anymore thanks to a total transformation under Antonio Conte.

The Italian boss guided Spurs to an unlikely fourth-place finish in the Premier League last season after taking the reins in November 2021.

Known for his fiery approach, Conte was left outraged by some of Tottenham’s early performances under his tenure.

At times, the ex-Chelsea and Inter Milan manager appeared genuinely stunned by the standards at Spurs, even casting doubt on his future after a defeat at Burnley.

He called on the club to ‘make an assessment’ and insisted it’s ‘not right to continue this way’.

According to ex-Republic of Ireland striker Cascarino, that ‘meltdown’ was the moment everything changed for Tottenham.

The club had developed a reputation for crumbling under pressure, threatening to deliver but ultimately failing, so much so that ‘Spursy’ became a term used to describe it.

However, Cascarino insists those days are now behind them with Conte at the helm.

“They are not going to be Spursy anymore,” said the Weekend Sports Breakfast host on talkSPORT.

“When Antonio Conte first got the job, it was quite clear he didn’t agree with the direction of the football club.

“It got to early February and they lost to Wolves and Southampton in the Premier League.

“He was clearly absolutely furious. Then they lost to Burnley and he had a total meltdown.

“That was the moment their whole season changed. He went after everything at the club.

“He’s a manager who doesn’t need a job: he does it because he’s addicted to it, he loves it and he demands the highest level.

“It must be very refreshing for Spurs fans.”
