Antonio Conte and Paris Saint-Germain is ‘a terrible mismatch’ and the Tottenham coach would not be well received by the club’s superstars.

Rumours emerged on Sunday that Conte is in the running to replace Mauricio Pochettino, who could leave PSG days after securing the Ligue 1 title.

Former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane is also in the running, but Conte, a five-time league champion in England and Italy, could well be tempted by a move to Paris.

That’s the view of talkSPORT’s resident European football journalist Andy Brassell, who says PSG have long been interested in the Italian, who joined Spurs in November, which was seen as a huge coup for the Premier League side.

Speaking on Trans Europe Express, talkSPORT host and Spurs fan Danny Kelly first expressed his fears about Pochettino’s potential departure.

“I have a terrible fear that if Zinedine Zidane isn’t announced within 36 hours of Pochettino going then it will be Conte,” he said.

And Brassell then confirmed his worst nightmares.

“I think it might well be, and I’ve thought that for a while,” he explained.

“Paris Saint-Germain let his people know a while back that they’re interested and as far as I’m aware they’ve not received a rebuffle.

“I think that Conte is realising that the nuts and bolts of managing Spurs will not include a league title in the next couple of years and I just don’t think he’s up for that.”

However, despite PSG potentially being able to secure a manager with a reputation as a serial winner, plenty doesn’t add up according to Brassell.

He explained: “There’s so much about Conte to Paris Saint-Germain that makes absolutely no sense, the fact that he treats absolutely everyone with the same ire, which I’m not really sure works in a superstar culture.

“The one thing they really want is the Champions League, something that Antonio Conte has come nowhere near, there’s so many other things to recommend him but that is not one of those things.

“It’s just such a terrible mismatch.”

One area Conte has not had much success in is the Champions League. Thomas Tuchel came closest when PSG were beaten in the final by Bayern Munich.

But despite boasting an attack of Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi and Neymar, the club were beaten by Real Madrid this season.
