Anthony Martial Commits to Manchester United Despite Interest from Marseille and Fenerbahce
Despite interest from Marseille and Fenerbahce, Anthony Martial has made it clear that he has no intention of leaving Manchester United this month. The 28-year-old forward has also attracted attention from Saudi Pro League clubs but is determined to see out the remaining months of his current contract.
A Promising Start and Injuries
Martial joined Manchester United nine years ago from Monaco as one of the most promising young forwards in European football. However, his career at Old Trafford has been plagued by injuries, hindering his progress. Under the management of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Martial enjoyed a consistent run of form and scored 23 goals during the 2019/20 season.
A Bit-Part Role and Lack of Goals
Since then, Martial’s body has continuously let him down, resulting in a reduced role under Erik ten Hag. Following a disappointing loan spell at Sevilla, Martial has struggled to find his form. This season, he has only scored two goals in 19 appearances and has not played since a 3-0 loss to Bournemouth a month ago.
Interest from European Clubs
Despite his recent lack of playing time, Martial has attracted interest from several European clubs. However, according to Sky Sports, he has no plans to leave Manchester United mid-season. While the possibility of him signing a new long-term deal with the club is unlikely, he is expected to leave as a free agent.
Defending Martial’s Performance
Erik ten Hag’s decision to substitute Martial in the defeat against Bournemouth was met with ironic cheers and boos. However, the Dutchman defended his forward, stating that Martial has the skills and abilities to perform well. He emphasized that the team as a whole failed, not just one player.
