Amorim’s Liverpool Move: A Potential Three-Year Contract in the Works
As the end of the season draws near, Liverpool is making progress in securing Ruben Amorim as their next manager. According to reports from Portugal, Amorim’s representatives are set to meet with Liverpool on Tuesday to discuss a possible three-year deal. With Jurgen Klopp’s departure looming, it seems that things are moving quickly in Liverpool’s search for his successor.
Earlier reports suggested that Liverpool was aiming to reach an agreement with Amorim this week, allowing him to take over after Sporting CP’s potential double-winning season. The latest update from newspaper Correio da Manha reveals that the club will meet with Amorim’s agent, Raul Costa, to outline the terms of the agreement. Initial talks have already taken place, and Amorim himself has publicly focused on Sporting CP’s push for silverware in the Primeira Liga and Taca de Portugal.
Journalist Pedro Sepulveda shed further light on the situation, stating that Liverpool is prepared to offer Amorim a three-year contract. Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg has supported this claim, suggesting that there is a “verbal agreement in principle” between Amorim and the club. Plettenberg also believes that Amorim prefers a move to Anfield over being a candidate for the Bayern Munich job. While negotiations are still ongoing, it appears that Amorim is eager to join Liverpool.
However, there are still some hurdles to overcome. Liverpool needs to negotiate a compensation package with Sporting CP and convince the Lisbon club to release their manager. Fortunately, Amorim’s contract includes a release clause, making his departure a possibility. Reports suggest that the release clause stands at €20 million (£17.16m) for clubs outside of Portugal. However, there have been claims of a gentleman’s agreement between Amorim and Sporting CP that would allow him to join an elite club like Liverpool for €10 million (£8.58m).
While sources in Merseyside have downplayed the progress made in Portugal, all signs point to Amorim becoming the next Liverpool manager. It is clear that Liverpool is actively pursuing Amorim, and Tuesday’s meeting could prove decisive in finalizing the deal. Liverpool fans eagerly await an official announcement, as they anticipate the beginning of a new era under Amorim’s leadership.
