Amad Diallo admits he wants to return to Manchester United this summer in order to complete his ‘dream’ of playing regularly for the club.

The Ivory Coast winger is enjoying a fantastic loan spell with Sunderland, with the Black Cats in contention for a Championship play-off spot.

After a disappointing stint with Rangers last term, Diallo joined Sunderland on a season-long loan spell in August.

Diallo’s gone from strength to strength in the north-east, scoring 11 goals and laying on three assists.

The club were so fearful that United would recall Diallo in January that manager Tony Mowbray implored the Red Devils to let the winger stay at the Stadium of Light.

It’s unlikely that Diallo will extend his stay at the club unless they earn promotion, at which point United would consider sending him out on loan again.

But Diallo’s revealed that his preference is to return to United as he believes he can compete for a first-team spot.

‘I haven’t shown my best for them [United] yet, but I hope next season I can return and prove my talent,’ Diallo told FourFourTwo.

‘My dream is to play regular football at Manchester United.’

Diallo agreed to join United in October 2020 in a deal worth an initial £18m, though that could rise to as much as £36m.

The Ivorian formally completed his move in January 2021 and arrived to a star-studded Old Trafford dressing room from Atalanta.

‘Paul Pogba and Edinson Cavani were [United players when I signed] and it was fantastic to meet them,” he told FourFourTwo.

‘I have a good friendship with Pogba, and also with Bruno Fernandes and Anthony Elanga. They all made me feel welcome.’
