Alvaro Morata is set to turn down a move to the Premier League this summer amid interest from Arsenal.

The striker, 29, has returned to Atletico Madrid following a two-year loan spell at Juventus and is said to be available on a permanent deal.

Reports have linked the Gunners and Newcastle with a bid to sign the Spaniard who played in the Premier League with Chelsea between 2017 and 2019.

However, according to Gazetta dello Sport, Morata does not want a move back to England and would prefer to stay with Juventus.

It is unknown whether Morata was high up on Arsenal’s list of targets with the north London club said to be chasing Manchester City’s Gabriel Jesus.

Mikel Arteta is looking for a new striker following the departures of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette in the past six months.

Meanwhile, last season, the Gunners scored just 61 goals which was the lowest amount in the Premier League’s top five.

Reports on Thursday suggested the club were close to agreeing a deal for Jesus for just under £50million.

It is thought Arteta also wants to sign a central midfielder and centre back as he looks to add depth to his squad ahead of Arsenal’s return to the Europa League next season.

Speaking last month, the Spaniard revealed he would need to manage his resources this summer.

He said: ‘We are going to have certain resources, not unlimited resources, some resources. And with our resources we have to play and do what we have to do in the best possible way.

‘We don’t know what the rest are going to have in terms of resources, which I’m assuming is going to be challenging because now it’s not a top three or top four league.

‘Now it is a top eight or 10 teams that are involved. That’s why we have to find a way to do again what we did last summer.’
