Alexis Mac Allister scores after 49 seconds after pinching ball of Douglas Luiz, but Aston Villa star does the same to Brighton man in second half, which leads to goal

A mix-up between Emiliano Martinez and Douglas Luiz allowed Alexis Mac Allister to give Brighton the lead against Aston Villa after just 49 seconds.

The out-of-form Seagulls were preparing for a tricky test against Unai Emery’s side and got off to the perfect start inside the first minute.

Having had the ball played back to him, Martinez tried to play the ball from inside his six-yard box towards Luiz in midfield, however, a poor pass immediately put the Brazilian under pressure.

Unable to get the ball under control, Mac Allister nipped in to take the ball off Luiz, before slotting the ball past Martinez from 12 yards out for his fifth goal of the season.

Thankfully for Martinez and Luiz their blushes were spared after 20 minutes when Lewis Dunk brought down John McGinn.

This allowed Danny Ings to level the contest from the penalty spot although his strike only narrowly avoided the gloves of Robert Sanchez.

Villa then turned the contest around on 54 minutes as Ings netted for the second time when his left-footed effort from close range squirmed past Sanchez.

The goal was somewhat ironic as Ings collected the ball after Luiz got his revenge on Mac Allister by dispossessing him on the edge of Brighton’s box.
