Alexander Isak Sidelined for Newcastle United’s Premier League Clash with Fulham
Swedish striker Alexander Isak will not be featuring in the Newcastle United squad for their upcoming Premier League match against Fulham on Saturday. Magpies boss Eddie Howe confirmed that Isak is dealing with a groin problem, which has ruled him out of the game.
Groin Injury Surfaces After Champions League Appearance
Isak recently made a substitute appearance in the Champions League match against AC Milan. At that time, there were no indications of an injury concern that would affect his availability for the Fulham clash.
Callum Wilson Takes Central Striker Role
Despite his recent performance, Isak was not even named on the substitutes’ bench by Howe. Callum Wilson has been given the central striker role, with Anthony Gordon and Miguel Almiron providing support on the flanks.
Precautionary Measure to Avoid Aggravating the Injury
Explaining Isak’s omission, Howe stated, “It’s not a big problem. But he still has the after effects of his groin injury. He’s just feeling a tightness, so we didn’t want to risk making that worse. Especially with the upcoming schedule.”
Busy Schedule Ahead for Newcastle United
Newcastle United has a packed schedule this month, with a Carabao Cup quarter-final against Chelsea scheduled for Tuesday night at Stamford Bridge. They also have two more Premier League games before the end of the month, facing Luton Town on Saturday, December 23, and Nottingham Forest at home three days later.
