Liverpool Defender Trent Alexander-Arnold Sidelined with Knee Injury
Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold will be out of action for “a few weeks” due to a knee injury, according to Liverpool assistant Pep Lijnders.
A Blow for Liverpool
Lijnders revealed that Alexander-Arnold hyperextended his knee in the last game, resulting in a tear in the lateral ligament. The team will have to adapt to new dynamics without him, as he was one of their most important players.
“He will get some rest and then hopefully he can come back to where he was. Because this guy was decisive in all the games and was the one who created constantly for us from deep and gave the team a high level of flexibility. We will really miss him.”
Upcoming Matches
Alexander-Arnold’s absence means he will miss Wednesday’s Carabao Cup semi-final first leg against Fulham at Anfield. Liverpool will also face Bournemouth in the Premier League on 21 January, followed by the second leg against Fulham three days later.
They will then compete against Norwich or Bristol Rovers in the FA Cup fourth round on the weekend of 27 January, before ending the month with a Premier League match against Chelsea on 31 January.
Other Injury Updates
Alexander-Arnold’s injury adds to Liverpool’s list of absent players. Forward Mohamed Salah is currently on international duty with Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations, while midfielder Wataru Endo is with Japan at the Asia Cup.
Left-backs Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas are expected to return to training at the end of the month as they recover from shoulder injuries. Midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai is still sidelined with a hamstring problem, but captain Virgil van Dijk is fit to face Fulham on Wednesday after recovering from illness.
Liverpool’s Strong Position
Liverpool currently sits three points clear at the top of the Premier League and has advanced to the knockout stages of the Europa League.
