Sir Alex Ferguson hails Erik ten Hag for ‘fantastic job’ at Manchester United

Sir Alex Ferguson is one of the most revered figures in the history of Manchester United, and his opinion carries a lot of weight. The legendary manager has recently praised current boss Erik ten Hag for the ‘fantastic job’ he has done in his first season at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag took charge of the Red Devils last summer and guided them back into the Champions League with a third-place finish in the Premier League. He also secured United’s first trophy in six years as his side lifted the Carabao Cup.

The Dutchman has made some astute signings since taking over, with Casemiro and Lisandro Martinez both proving to be shrewd acquisitions. Ferguson has also been impressed by Christian Eriksen and Raphael Varane, while United have strengthened their squad even further this summer with Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund arriving at the club.

Speaking to NBC Sports, Ferguson said: “Erik ten Hag has done a fantastic job. He’s grabbed it, he’s brought his own players in, I think that was important. If he gets the new centre-forward (Rasmus Hojlund) ready quickly, they will be a really good side. Because that’s what they’ve really lacked in the last few years, a top centre-forward. The rest of the team is very good. There’s great, experienced defenders in Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez.”

Ferguson added: “Christian Eriksen and Casemiro in the midfield. There’s a foundation there. That’s always completed by the goalkeeper and the centre-forward. The new goalkeeper is very athletic and we hope the new centre-forward is fit quickly.”

United kick off their Premier League campaign against Wolves on Sunday, and with the new signings made over the summer, they will be hoping to challenge for the title this season. Ten Hag has certainly made an impressive start to his tenure at Old Trafford and it will be interesting to see how far he can take the club this season.
