Alejandro Garnacho: Ten Hag Confident in Young Star’s Potential

Date:

Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, has expressed his belief in the potential of Alejandro Garnacho, hailing him as a player with the “X-factor” needed to become world-class. However, he also cautioned that the 20-year-old still has a long way to go in his development.

Garnacho had an impressive 2023-24 season, establishing himself as a key player for the team. He scored the goal of the season against Everton and found the back of the net in the FA Cup final victory over Manchester City. After representing Argentina in the Copa America, he returned to training later than his teammates due to an extended break. Despite starting the Community Shield match against City on the bench, Garnacho came on and scored a goal.

With a strong start to the season, Garnacho is pushing for a starting spot in the upcoming match against Brighton. In the league opener against Fulham, he provided the assist for Joshua Zirkzee’s winning goal. When asked about what Garnacho needs to do to reach the next level and become a world-class player, ten Hag emphasized the importance of hard work and consistency.

Ten Hag acknowledged that Garnacho has high potential and has already shown that he can contribute and be a starting XI player. However, he emphasized that becoming a world-class player requires significant progress and consistent performance. The manager believes that Garnacho has the potential to achieve this level but stressed the need for continuous hard work.

Garnacho had an impressive goal-scoring record last season, finding the net 16 times in 87 appearances for the senior side. Only Rasmus Hojlund and Bruno Fernandes outscored him during that period. Despite this, ten Hag challenged Garnacho to further improve his game and find greater consistency.

The manager also highlighted the importance of having players with the “X-factor” in the team. He acknowledged that Garnacho has shown glimpses of this quality, but he stressed that consistency is key. In order to be considered a world-class player, Garnacho will need to consistently demonstrate his abilities on the field.

Ten Hag’s comments reflect the expectations and standards set at Manchester United, where players are expected to strive for greatness and continually improve their performance. While Garnacho has already made significant strides in his career, he still has a long way to go in order to reach the pinnacle of world-class status. With his potential and the support of his manager, Garnacho has the opportunity to continue developing and eventually achieve his goal of becoming a world-class player.
