Ajax player Steven Berghuis is facing potential consequences after throwing a punch at an FC Twente supporter on Sunday. The incident occurred after Ajax’s 3-1 defeat, which resulted in the team missing out on Champions League qualification and their worst league finish in 14 years. Berghuis was waiting by the team bus outside the De Grolsch Veste when he approached a group of Twente fans and was seen leaning over the barriers before swinging an overhand right hook. A security member quickly intervened, but Berghuis continued to exchange words with the individual. According to reports, Berghuis reacted aggressively after the supporter made a racist remark about his teammate, Brian Brobbey. Berghuis apologized for his actions, stating that he regretted them and that he should not have acted in such a way. He acknowledged that he has an exemplary role as a player of Ajax and that his reaction did not solve anything. Berghuis was one of Ajax’s standout performers this season, contributing 11 goals and as many assists in 42 games in all competitions.
