New Ajax manager Alfred Schreuder believes Manchester United target Antony will not be leaving the club this summer, saying: ‘If we sell one more key player, it wouldn’t be good for us.’

The Dutch side have already sold a number of their best players this summer, with Lisandro Martinez joining the Red Devils, Sebastien Haller going to Borussia Dortmund and both Ryan Gravenberch and Noussair Mazraoui heading to Bayern Munich.

United manager Erik ten Hag is keen to take Antony from Ajax to his new home at Old Trafford, but his replacement in Amsterdam does not think that will happen.

It might be wishful thinking from the Ajax boss, but he is confident Antony and the rest of his first team players will not be leaving this summer.

Schreuder told ESPN: ‘I really think he will stay. Of course, we have sold a lot of players now. That has not happened in recent years.

‘We have also bought players. But we have sold so many players that I assume nobody will leave.’

Asked if the club would set a deadline, past which no other players would leave, Schreuder replied: ‘No, we did not discuss that. But we do talk to each other daily.

‘I assume that no one is leaving. If we sell one more key player, it wouldn’t be good for us.’

This will be a disappointment to Ten Hag who admitted that he wants more options up front going into the season.

Asked if he was concerned over suffering an injury to one of his forward players, especially with the uncertainty surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo, Ten Hag said: ‘That is a reason but also the number of games. You need more options in the offence.

‘I think it’s vital if you want to get success – the season is really long – but we also still have time to fill that in.’
