Achraf Hakimi, the Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) star, has reportedly been dumped by his wife, actress Hiba Abouk, following his shock rape allegation. The World Cup ace, who is 24 years old, has been placed under judicial supervision on preliminary charges of rape, according to French prosecutors. He is accused of raping a woman after inviting her to his home while his wife was on holiday with their children. Reports in Spain claim that Hiba had already been estranged from him for weeks and that she is now “accelerating” proceedings to separate for good. Hakimi’s lawyer has stated that he “strongly denies” the rape allegation and that the decision to investigate him will give him the opportunity to defend himself.
Hakimi, who plays for Morocco, is known as the north African nation’s answer to David Beckham. In December, he became a national hero when his winning penalty against Spain put Morocco through to the World Cup quarter-final for the first time. He met Spanish actress Hiba while playing for Borussia Dortmund, and they married in a secret ceremony in 2020. Their first son was born that year, and another two years later. In October, the couple posed together in a stunning photoshoot in Vogue Arabia.
According to Le Parisien, Hakimi had been talking to the alleged victim on Instagram since January 16. Last Saturday, he allegedly paid for an Uber to drive her to his home in a Paris suburb. She claimed he assaulted her before she was able to free herself by kicking him and then texted a friend to pick her up. The woman went to a police station on Sunday but reportedly said she did not want to press charges. Prosecutors launched an investigation due to the seriousness of the allegations.
Yesterday it was reported that PSG star Hakimi was questioned by prosecutors and denied wrongdoing. PSG has not suspended the defender, who returned to training today alongside Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe. He was sidelined by an injury last week but was expected to be fit for tomorrow’s game against Nantes. Coach Christophe Galtier said he hoped Hakimi would play in the crucial Champions League clash against Bayern Munich next week.
On Monday, Hakimi received loud applause at a Fifa awards ceremony as he was named in a world team of the year. He was credited for helping his national team reach the historic semi-final in the 2022 World Cup, the first African country to do so.
