Aaron Wan Bissaka was praised for an ‘absolutely fantastic performance’ in Manchester United’s 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest as he approaches a crucial moment in his career.
The Croydon-born defender was making his first Premier League start for United since April after dramatically falling out of the fold at Old Trafford.
Signed from Crystal Palace by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for a whopping £50million in 2019, the right-back was a regular under the Norwegian, but things later changed.
Wan-Bissaka went missing under interim boss Ralf Rangnick as Diogo Dalot made the right back spot his own, and had only featured for four minutes in the past eight months.
However, with Dalot sidelined by a World Cup injury, Erik ten Hag has put his faith in Wan-Bissaka, and has so far been richly rewarded.
The 25-year-old starred in United’s first game back post-Qatar 2022, assisting Christian Eriksen in a 2-0 Carabao Cup win over Burnley.
He was then similarly impressive as the Red Devils swatted aside Forest, and talkSPORT commentator Micky Gray had to single him out for praise.
“Aaron Wan Bissaka has been absolutely fantastic tonight, he really has,” he began.
“He’s been out of the frame for a long, long time, I saw him midweek, he set up the first goal for Christian Eriksen.
“What a performance he’s put in tonight, not a foot wrong, and he’s getting in the opposition’s half, putting balls in the box, making things happen, great performance.”
It was a timely display too, with talkSPORT sources reporting that Wolves have made Wan-Bissaka a top target for the January transfer window.
Ten Hag was asked about the player after the Burnley win and said: “It’s clear, he has a future.
“He had some good years here at Man United, but from the start this season he had a lot of illnesses and injuries.
“From the restart on, he’s fit, he could train with the team, and you see him progressing. His fitness level is getting better, his performance level is getting better and I’m really happy with his performance [against Burnley].
“If you then give an assist, especially the way he gave an assist, his movement in the right moment, the timing, great pass of course from Bruno, but the assist is great… So I’m happy with his performance, he did good.”
Former side Palace and West Ham are also reportedly in the fold, but their task looks to have been made complicated.
Wan-Bissaka has not only potentially given himself a new lease of life just days before the transfer window opens, but also ensured that he has a stronger grip on his future than first thought, which can only be seen as a positive for a player who was previously seen as one of England’s most exciting young talents.
