2024/25 Dream Team Scoring: How Points Are Earned and Bonus Points Explained

Date:

Understanding how points are scored in fantasy football is crucial for every Dream Team manager. As the 2024/25 season approaches, it’s important to know how players can earn and lose points. Here is a comprehensive breakdown of the scoring system:

1. All Players:
– Goal: +6 points
– Assist: +3 points
– Appearance (0-59 minutes): +1 point
– Appearance (60+ minutes): +1 point
– Shot on target: +1 point
– Big chance created: +1 point
– Tackles: +1 point per two
– Yellow card: -1 point
– Red card: -3 points
– Penalty miss: -3 points
– Own goal: -2 points

2. Goalkeepers & Defenders Only:
– Clean sheet (minimum 60 minutes played): +5 points
– Each goal conceded over one goal: -1 point

3. Goalkeepers Only:
– Saves: +1 point per two
– Penalty save: +3 points

It’s worth noting that goals and assists have increased in value compared to last season’s game. This emphasizes the importance of having players who can contribute to the scoreboard consistently.

In addition to the core points, players can also earn bonus points ranging from zero to five per fixture. These bonus points are determined by various statistics that contribute to player performance marks (PPM). Completed crosses, successful dribbles, pass completion rate, interceptions, blocks, fouls won, and goals scored from outside the area all play a role in determining bonus points. On the other hand, offsides, fouls conceded, and errors leading to goals negatively impact a player’s PPM.

Goalkeepers can earn player performance marks through successful claims, keeper sweeps, and successful punches. The number of bonus points awarded is as follows:

– 5-7 PPM: 1 bonus point
– 8-11 PPM: 3 bonus points
– 12+ PPM: 5 bonus points

The reason goals, assists, and other similar actions do not contribute to bonus points is that players are already rewarded with suitable returns for those actions. Bonus points are meant to recognize positive contributions that are not already covered by the core points system, ensuring a fair reflection of each player’s overall performance.

It’s important to keep in mind that the stats provided by Opta, the official data provider, are reviewed after each game. This occasionally leads to post-match changes in the points awarded to players. However, these alterations are made to more accurately reflect each individual’s performance. Any changes, except for technical issues or missing data, are made within 12 hours from the final whistle of the relevant fixture.

In conclusion, understanding how points are scored in fantasy football is essential for Dream Team managers. By familiarizing themselves with the scoring system and keeping track of bonus points, managers can make informed decisions when selecting their teams.
