The 34th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations is set to take place this month, featuring 24 teams competing for the prestigious trophy. Senegal, the defending champions, are aiming to secure back-to-back wins at the tournament.

Ivory Coast will serve as the host country for the AFCON for the second time, having previously hosted in 1984. Originally scheduled for 2023, the competition was postponed to 2024 due to weather concerns, as announced by CAF President Patrice Motsepe.

The tournament will showcase some of football’s biggest stars, including Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Riyad Mahrez, and many others. The final is scheduled to take place on February 11th at the Stade National de la Cote d’Ivoire stadium.

When is the Africa Cup of Nations?

The Africa Cup of Nations will be held from January 2024 to February 2024, with Ivory Coast as the host country. The final match is set to take place on Sunday, February 11th. However, this timing may clash with the Premier League and other European/Continental competitions, resulting in clubs losing some of their top players.

What channel is AFCON 2023 and can it be live streamed?

In the UK, every game of the Africa Cup of Nations 2023 will be broadcast live on Sky Sports. Fans can also live stream the matches through the Sky Go and NOW TV apps, which are available for download on mobile and tablet devices. The tournament will run from January 13th to February 11th.

Who is playing in the Africa Cup of Nations?

Several teams have already qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations, including Ivory Coast, Morocco, Algeria, South Africa, Senegal, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Mali, Tunisia, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea, Nigeria, Zambia, Egypt, and Equatorial Guinea. Other teams, such as DR Congo, Mauritania, Cameroon, Namibia, Ghana, Angola, Tanzania, Gambia, Mozambique, and more, are still in the process of qualifying.

What is the format of the Africa Cup of Nations?

The 24 qualified teams will be divided into six groups of four teams each for a single round-robin stage. The top two teams from each group, along with the four best third-placed teams, will advance to the round of 16. The winners of the round of 16 matches will progress to the quarter-finals, and the winners of the quarter-finals will move on to the semi-finals. The losers of the semi-finals will compete in a third-place play-off match, while the winners will face off in the final to determine the tournament’s champion.
